Get Up, Stand Up! The Bob Marley Story, which will chronicle the life of the legendary Jamaican singer-songwriter Bob Marley, will receive its world premiere in London at the newly refurbished Lyric Theatre on Saturday, 6th February 2021.
Arinzé Kene, who is known for his appearances in Bob Dylan musical Girl From the North Country and his own visionary play Misty will play Marley in the show about his life. Kene said it is "not only an honour to be able to spread Bob Marley’s message further, but to get to be him for a little while is a lifelong dream come true."
Bob Marley was born in Nine Mile, Jamaica in 1945, and is considered one of the pioneers of reggae music. Throughout his career he had a number of hits with the likes of “No Woman No Cry”, “Exodus”, “3 Little Birds”, and “Get Up Stand Up”, all of which have been confirmed to be featured in the West End musical.
Producers have assembled a multi-award-winning team to write the show, which features a book by Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall, whose story takes direct inspiration from Marley’s visionary lyrics to tell his extraordinary personal story as an artist, and will be directed by Clint Dyer.
