Dance of Death to close 7 June 03

Dance of Death, which was booking to 31 May 03, has been extended by one week to 7 June 03, but then it will close!

The play, written by August Strindberg and adapted by Richard Greenberg, stars Ian McKellen, Frances de la Tour, Owen Teale .

It opened at the Lyric Theatre in March 03 to superb notices from the popular press: THE INDEPENDENT says, "Funniest and most poignant evening on London stage." THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "A tremendous production of an unarguably great play." THE GUARDIAN says, "McKellen, in one of his finest performances.....Frances de la Tour matches him perfectly." THE TIMES says, "Delighted with Sean Matthias's revival."

Directed by Sean Mathias, the play concerns Edgar, a military captain, and his wife, Alice, a former actress, who are preparing to celebrate their silver anniversary - 25 years of living together in a place they have nicknamed 'Little Hell.' Inevitably bound together yet yearning to escape, the two spend their empty days by matching wits, their verbal jousts spinning a web of twisted emotion. A visitor from their past suddenly reenters their lives...will he offer them freedom from their lives or fall victim to their wicked games?
