Drew McOnie’s Jekyll and Hyde to stream from 5 August
Olivier-Award winner's dance production was filmed live at the Old Vic
Jekyll and Hyde, Drew McOnie's full-length dance production will stream for free on The Old Vic's YouTube channel from Wednesday 5 August. It will be available on the service for one week. First seen in 2016, the production was commissioned by The Old Vic and marked the beginning of McOnie's time as an associate company of the theatre.
Jekyll and Hyde reimagines Robert Louis Stevenson's iconic tale The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, setting the story in the backstreets of 1950s London. Transforming the Victorian gothic drama into something vivid and intensely physical, the score by Grant Olding (One Man, Two Guv'nors) includes big band sounds combined with electric grunge.
The live stream features the original West End company of the show, including Daniel Collins and Tim Hodges as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, with Ashley Andrews, Joao Caroline, Carrie Taylor Johnson, Anabel Kutay, Ebony Molina, Rachel Muldoon, Freya Rowley, Alexzandra Sarmiento, Barnaby Thompson, and Jason Winter. Design is by Soutra Gilmour with lighting by Robert Howell.
Drew McOnie has established himself as one of the world's leading choreographers and directors, working across different genres and accumulating credits including Jesus Christ Superstar (Regent's Park Open Air Theatre), King Kong (Broadway), and Strictly Ballroom (West End). He also choreographed In the Heights, for which he won the 2016 Olivier Award for Best Theatre Choreography.
