Rented Space Theatre Company will present The Merchant of Vembley at the Cockpit Theatre in Marylebone, north London, from 6 to 25 October 2015, with an official opening on 9 October 2015.

The drama is written by Shishir Kurup and is adapted from William Shakespeare's 'The Merchant of Venice'.

"Fallen Bollywood star Jeetendra comes to London to try his luck with Pushpa, a young Gujarati heiress. In a bid to win her heart (and her late film-director father's vast fortune - enough to bankroll his return to the silver screen), Jeetendra uses his best friend, Devendra as a conduit to borrow money from Muslim money-lender, Sharuk. When Devender defaults, Sharuk claims a dangling ounce of flesh, a penalty that is just too much to bear. In a suitably Bolly-Shakespearean side plot involving arranged marriage, Pushpa must hope Jeetendra chooses correctly from answers to a film-inspired test willed by her father on his deathbed."

The cast for the production includes Jarreau Antoine (Armando), Shamir Dawood (Jeetendra), Mikhael DeVille (Amithabha), Emilio Doorgasingh (Sharuk), Vijay Doshi (Yogananda), Rohit Gokani (Devender), Anil Goutam (Shivananda), Taj Kandula (Kavita), Ishwar Maharaj (Tooranpoi), Aria Prasad (Pushpa) and Ambreen Razia (Noorani).

The production is directed by Ajay Chowdhury with design by Sean Cavanagh and lighting by Ben Cracknell.

Tickets for the production are now on sale.
