Zipp! The Musical to close 5 Apr 03
Zipp! The Musical, written and performed by ex Tory MP Gyles Brandreth, has posted early closing notices at the Duchess Theatre. The last performance will be on Sat 5 Apr 03. (It was booking to 26 Apr)
The show received mixed notices from the popular press when it opened at the beginning of February this year: THE EVENING STANDARD says, "A witty take on the classics and clangers... " THE TIMES says, "Jolly is probably the word for it but it smacks too much of student revue." THE INDEPENDENT says, " Embarrassingly low in ingenuity and ambition."
100 musicals in 90 minutes ! With ZIPP! the Pocket Musical Theatre Company climb aboard a high-speed musical roller-coaster that does for the world of musical theatre what the Reduced Shakespeare Company did for the works of the Bard. From Floradora, the hit of 1900, to Bombay Dreams and Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang in 2002, ZIPP! covers a century of Broadway and West End musicals every show you'd expect to find and quite a few that time forgot (e.g. Sideshow, the musical about Siamese twins, and Twang!!, Lionel Bart's most celebrated flop.)
Zipp! is directed and choreographed by Carole Todd.
