The Devil is an Ass

This story was a good idea by Ben Jonson, but it never achieves the desired effect. Matthew Warchus the director tried but failed to make this comedy entertaining. The story was just not strong enough.

John Dougall as Pug the devil, was unconvincing. Probably because the character "Pug" was not used enough, he just wasn't funny and he should have been! John Nettles in the role of "Merecraft" was superb and so was David Troughton as "Fitzdottrel". The best part of the play though was the sets, they wonderfully created the right atmosphere with graveyards, bones hanging down, fluorescent light and scary music.
