Heathers the Musical Information

From The Other Palace to the Theatre Royal Haymarket and back again, Heathers shows no sign of slowing down. See the high school homecoming at The Other Palace. Heathers tickets are available on London Theatre now.

Heathers first entertained West End theatregoers at The Other Palace in 2018, selling 19,000 tickets and becoming the best-selling show of all time at the London venue. Immediately, Heathers transferred to the Theatre Royal Haymarket, starring West End sensation Carrie Hope Fletcher as Veronica Sawyer.

In a review of Heathers for London Theatre, "[this] is a musical for the college kids, they’re the ones who are going to see themselves in it, that will be singing these belting songs with their friends. I laughed, witnessed some top-class performances, and woke up singing the songs. How very.”

What is Heathers the Musical about?

Heathers is a musical that follows Veronica Sawyer, a high school “nobody” who dreams of becoming popular. Her call is finally answered when she’s accepted into the ‘Heathers’ clique, sitting at the top of the high school social pyramid.

When Veronica attracts the attention of mysterious teen rebel Jason Dean, or JD for short, she’s lovestruck. But, as she begins to behave in order to fit in with the crowd, can Veronica remain true to herself? Shocking actions and testimonies await in this show, where it’s murder being a popular person.

Is Heathers the Musical the same as the movie?

Heathers the Musical is based on the 1989 film of the same name, starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. The musical adaptation of Heathers features a book, music and lyrics by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe, with songs including “Big Fun”, “Dead Girl Walking” and “Seventeen.” For the 2018 production in London, a new song was written for Heathers. “I Say No” debuted in London, and is sung by Veronica Sawyer.

'Dear Diary. July 12th, 2021.' Veronica Sawyer opens Heathers with the phrase "Dear Diary", so it feels fitting to mark the day I battled through the wind and rain to see Heathers in the West End.The growing domination of cult teen musicals is alive and well as the West End reopens. Be More Chill and Six are playing in their largest West End venues to date. Dear Evan Hansen is set to reopen in the autumn. But for all the shared playground politics in teen musicals, no show takes on adult themes...

The future of West End theatre looks bright. The rise of shows created via TikTok such as Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical introduces new audiences to theatre, and the Grammy Award-winning Bridgerton musical gained traction via social media. There’s a new type of theatremaker too, and Hannah Lowther is at the forefront of this pioneering performing generation. The “Tesco TikTokker” gained notoriety at the start of the pandemic for combining her retail job with musical theatre. To date, she’s...

This article contains spoilers for Heathers. Heathers: The Musical has returned to The Other Palace, the theatre where the Heathers first set up their “candy store” and played croquet on London soil. But before then, and even before the show’s world premiere in New York, the Heathers reign began on screen in 1988, when the original film premiered and quickly became a cult classic. If you’re here, you probably already know that, and you’re dying (no pun intended) to see your favourite movie...
