Following the critically-acclaimed West End play, Beginning, David Eldridge returns to the National Theatre with his latest play, Middle. Polly Findlay will direct the touching marital drama. Middle is at the Dorfman Theatre for a limited engagement. Middle tickets will be available soon.
The Middle play focuses on Maggie and Gary. They’ve been married for years, but once the honeymoon period is over, the conjugal connections change. One morning, Maggie is heating some milk in the kitchen. Gary questions what she’s doing out of bed. From this simple task, an honest conversation brews, but will tensions boil up to the surface? How much honesty and truth can one marriage take?
Middle is the latest play by David Eldridge. Eldridge is a British dramatist who has written 30 original plays. He’s also adapted texts too, including Henrik Ibsen’s The Wild Duck, John Gabriel Borkman and The Lady from the Sea. His most recent play, Beginning, garnered critical acclaim at the National, later transferring to the Ambassadors Theatre. In a Beginning review for London Theatre, our critic said: “The wonderful thing about both Eldridge’s dialogue and Polly Findlay’s production is that they are so effortless.” Who knows, maybe Middle London performances will follow a similar path?
Claire Rushbrook will play Maggie in Middle, alongside Daniel Ryan as Gary. Polly Findlay will direct Middle, with a creative team including set and costume design by Fly Davis and sound design by Donato Wharton. Middle is part of the National Theatre’s 2022 season. Other National Theatre productions include The Corn is Green and The Father and the Assassin.
Middle tickets will be available soon.
