Much Ado About Nothing | Globe Information

Shakespeare Globe’s summer 2022 season — the 25th anniversary season — kicks off with a new production of Much Ado About Nothing. Much Ado About Nothing tickets are now available on London Theatre.

The Much Ado About Nothing play in London will follow the same plot as previous iterations of the original Shakespeare story. Much Ado About Nothing sees a soldier named Claudio recover after battling in a fierce conflict. Now, there’s another battle on his mind and in his heart — the battle for his love Hero. At the same time, Claudio’s friend Benedick is also in their own predicament, evading affection and accidentally finding his life partner in Beatrice. However, for this Much Ado About Nothing, the battle of the sexes will be amplified up to new levels. Get ready to explore Shakespeare’s tale of jealousy, love, and self-discovery in a new light.

Much Ado About Nothing is often staged in London. This summer, it’s down to director Lucy Bailey to put her own spin on the centuries-old story. Lucy Bailey returns to the Globe to direct, following previous shows such as Titus Andronicus in 2014 and Macbeth in 2010. However, Bailey’s no stranger to West End plays. Down the road, Witness for the Prosecution which she directed is at London County Hall. Lucy Bailey’s new production for Shakespeare’s Globe introduces some additional questions: if this is the 1940s, and the war that begins the play is thus implied to be World War 2, which side are our wacky, very Italian heroes on? Is everyone drunk, and...
