King Lear | Globe Information
Kathryn Hunter reprises her acclaimed performance in Shakespeare’s King Lear at the Globe as part of the Southbank theatre’s 25th anniversary season. King Lear tickets are available on London Theatre now.
The King Lear play follows a dramatic family feud which spirals out of control. But decisions made between a father and his children won't just affect their relationships. Their conversations could change the world. As King Lear gives up his empire, he divides it amongst his daughters and claims the one who loves him the most will be rewarded with more land. But how do you measure a qualitative state? Expectedly, chaos ensues, and the balance of power shifts in unexpected ways.
William Shakespeare’s King Lear play is often performed worldwide, including a notable 2018 production of King Lear starring Ian McKellen. But for this production, the King Lear character is turned on its head, as a woman steps into the lead role. The seemingly shapeshifting actor Kathryn Hunter reprises the monarch role, a role she first played in 1997, 25 years ago. Hunter’s joined by Shakespeare’s Globe artistic director Michelle Terry as Cordelia and the Fool.
King Lear in London reunites Hunter with director Helena Kaut-Howson, co-founder of theatre company Complicité and Marcello Magni. You’d be a fool to miss King Lear in London this summer. Experience King Lear in the home of Shakespeare in Britain.
