The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.play is based on C.S. Lewis’ Narnia fantasy tale of the same name. The play follows the Pevensie children — Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter — as they’re evacuated to a safe space during World War Two. While in their new home, they discover a wardrobe which acts as the entrance to a new world — Narnia. Narnia is unlike anything they’ve ever seen before. There’s talking animals, mythical creatures, and a White Witch that controls everything. Will the Pevensie children be able to save Narnia?
Sally Cookson’s adaptation of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe premiered at Leeds Playhouse and then transferred to the Bridge Theatre. In a 2019 review on London Theatre, our critic said: “There's a gleaming theatricality on display, in a world that's by turn immediate and relatable, fantastical and frightening. This is an evening of rich storytelling theatre, for which every element of theatrical craft is employed to service.”
Now, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe London performances are at the Gillian Lynne Theatre for a limited season. Samantha Womack will play the White Witch. Her West End credits include The Girl on the Train, South Pacific and Guys and Dolls.
