After a highly successful sold-out tour in Japan,* Spirited Away* will transfer to London with the original Japanese cast taking the stage. Kanna Hashimoto and Mone Kamishiraishi will alternate in the role of Chihiro.
John Caird (Les Miserables) will direct the stage adaptation, based on the Academy Award-winning 2001 film, in collaboration with Maoko Imai.
The show's production will incorporate English captions, a live orchestra performing Joe Hisaishi's score (arranged by Brad Haak), and creative elements such as set design by Jon Bausor, imaginative puppets by Toby Olié, choreography by Shigehiro Ide, and costumes by Sachiko Nakahara.
Spirited Away is the second stage adaptation of a Studio Ghibli movie, with My Neighbour Totoro debuting at the Barbican Centre in 2022. Due to popular demand, My Neighbour Totoro will return to the Barbican Centre in 2023 after smashing box office records in its original run.
