Till the Stars Come Down is a play that tells the story of Sylvia and Marek's wedding. Sylvia's working-class family, including her two very different sisters, are united to celebrate the special day. However, soon the limits of love are tested as the family seeks to come to terms with a changing world. This generational story of love, racism, and poverty is condensed into a single day when tensions come to a head.
Till the Stars Come Down in London is written by playwright Beth Steel, who is known for various plays, including The House of Shades and Labyrinth.
Steel said of Till the Stars Come Down, "I began the play as writer-in-residence at the National Theatre's New Work Department, a career-changing attachment that gave me the space and support needed to bring it into being, and it was an honor to watch Bijan Sheibani and the wider team unleash it! I can't wait to see them do it again."
Following the premiere of Till The Stars Come Down in 2024 the play earned two Olivier nominations for Best New Play and Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
The play was immediately loved by critics and audiences. As the 5-star London Theatre review said, "[it's] brilliantly specific in its references, yet universal in its hilarious, heart-stopping storytelling."
