Experience Shakespeare’s masterpiece comedy, Twelfth Night, as it arrives at the Barbican this winter in a bold reimagining from director Prasanna Puwanarajah, enriched with music by singer-songwriter Matt Maltese. Book Twelfth Night tickets on London Theatre.
Twelfth Night is a play that tells the story of Viola who survives a shipwreck and finds that she has been washed ashore in an unfamiliar land called Illyria. Grieving the loss of her twin brother and uncertain of what the future holds, she takes to disguising herself as a young man and enlists in the service of Duke Orsino. The events that follow are a spiralling web of mistaken identity and a twisted love triangle as Viola becomes entangled between Orsino and the noble Olivia, each undergoing their own experience of love and loss. In this world of disguise and trickery, no one is who they really claim to be, and desire deepens the foolery.
Following its five-star sold-out run in Stratford-upon-Avon, The Royal Shakespeare Company brings the magic of Twelfth Night to the Barbican Theatre stage.
This production boasts a stellar cast, including Freema Agyeman, who is best known for her role in the hit series Doctor Who. The cast also includes Michael Grady-Hall, Gwyneth Keyworth, Samuel West, and Daniel Monks.
Twelfth Night in London has a talented creative team, including set and costume design by James Cotterill, lighting design by Zoe Spurr and Bethany Gupwell, and sound design by George Dennis.
Pairing Shakespeare’s classic text with contemporary music and radiant visual design, Twelfth Night becomes a beautiful meditation on the masks we all choose to wear and how we conceal ourselves.
