About Arcadia

Be thrust into a Derbyshire country home in Tom Stoppard’s masterpiece, Arcadia, as it is directed in this dazzling reimagining by filmmaker and theatre director Carrie Cracknell (The Grapes of Wrath). Book Arcadia tickets on London Theatre.

Arcadia is a play originally staged in 1993 and has since been considered Stoppard’s greatest work. The story comes to life sandwiched between two centuries within the same home, where desire, history, and mathematics of all things seem to collide. In the early 19th century, Thomasina Coverly is a teenage genius who begins asking questions about the universe, while the adults around her struggle to rein in their passions while juggling intellectualism and decency. Meanwhile, in the present day, a group of scholars attempts to uncover the truth hidden within that same household, only to discover that knowledge is as dangerous as passion.

This brilliant production will mark the first time that Arcadia has been staged at The Old Vic, where director Cracknell and her glorious creative team have revived the play. The talented creative team includes set design by Alex Eales, costume design by Suzanne Cave, lighting by Guy Hoare, sound by Donato Wharton, and music by Stuart Earl.

Arcadia in London stars Isis Hainsworth as Thomasina Coverly, Seamus Dillane as Septimus Hodge, Leila Farzad as Hannah Jarvis, and Prasanna Puwanarajah as Bernard Nightingale. The cast also includes Gabriel Akuwudike, Fiona Button, Angus Cooper, Tim Frances, Holly Godliman, William Lawlor, Colin Mace, and Matthew Steer.

This is a show that is both humorous and incredibly heartfelt, and is surely a night out at the theatre that will stay with you. With a brilliant cast and a deep sense of wonder, Cracknell’s Arcadia is a production that reminds us why Stoppard’s masterpiece remains one of his greatest triumphs.
