Billy Elliot the Musical is set in a northern English mining town during the 1984-85 miners’ strike, following a young boy whose life changes unexpectedly when he finds himself wanting to put on ballet shoes instead of boxing gloves.

Billy is supposed to become a strong boxer who knows how to fight, but after stumbling into a dance class, he discovers not only a talent but a passion for the art that immediately sets him apart from the expectations placed on him by his family and community. While his father and older brother face the financial pressures of the strike, Billy begins pursuing an ambition that might take him far from the only world he’s ever known.

The title role is shared by Noah Mannion, Rafferty Smale, Spencer Collins, and William Gurney. Annette McLaughlin plays Billy’s dance teacher, Mrs. Wilkinson, with Deka Walmsley as Dad, Lesley Joseph as Grandma, Jack Bandeira as Tony, and Natasha J Barnes as Billy’s late mother. Liam Mower, one of the original performers to play Billy in the West End, returns as Older Billy.

Lee Hall wrote the book and lyrics, with music by Elton John. The original creative team reunites for this production, including director Stephen Daldry, scenic designer Ian MacNeil, costume designer Nicky Gillibrand, lighting designer Rick Fisher, sound designer Paul Arditti, and musical supervisor Martin Koch.

Billy Elliot the Musical in London is filled with dance, humour, conflict, and class struggle. With an unforgettable score, this production returns home with a brazen story about finding the courage to pursue the very life that you weren’t supposed to have.
