About The Last Ship

Sting returns to the world that made him in The Last Ship, a heartfelt musical about shipbuilders, community, and the cost of leaving home, at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Book The Last Ship tickets on London Theatre.

Inspired by Sting’s childhood in Wallsend, a shipbuilding town in the North East of England, The Last Ship is a musical following a community facing the closure of the very shipyard that has defined their lives for generations. As work dwindles and the future of the town comes into question, the people who built their lives around the yard must reckon with the loss of it and what it truly means to belong to a place.

Sting stars as Jackie White, the shipyard foreman whose health is failing him just as his community needs him the most. The 17-time Grammy Award-winning artist performs in every show of this freshly reimagined production, coming to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane for a limited run after international dates in Amsterdam, Brisbane, Paris, and New York.

The Last Ship in London was first developed by Sting in 2011 and is rooted in the world of his 1991 album The Soul Cages. The production features music and lyrics by Sting and a new book by Barney Norris, from a book by Lorne Campbell, based on an original book by John Logan and Brian Yorkey. It’s directed by Leo Warner, with set and video design by 59 Studio.

The creative team also includes set and props designer Jenny Melville, costume designer Loren Elstein, lighting designer Adam Bassett, sound designer Tom Gibbons, choreographer Rebecca Howell, video designer Benjamin Pearcy, and musical supervisor and orchestrator Rob Mathes.

The cast of this production includes Sting as Jackie White, Declan Bennett as Gideon, Lejaun-Sheppard as The Wallsend Ferryman, Lauren Samuels as Meg, Annette McLaughlin as Peggy White, Marc Akinfolarin as Davey, Cassiopeia Berkeley-Agyepong as Baroness Tynedale, Joe Caffrey as Billy, Mathew Craig as Freddy Newlands, and Hannah Richardson as Ellen.
