Martin Guerre is a musical inspired by an extraordinary true story from 16th-century France, centring on Bertrande, a young woman whose husband disappears from their village after an unhappy, unfulfilling marriage. Many years later, a man returns claiming to be Martin, but his identity is much more complicated than initially expected.

As the village welcomes him, questions arise about who he truly is and how much the truth matters when love and the law pull in opposite directions. This new version places Bertrande at the heart of the story as she faces enormous decisions about her marriage and the life she wants to live.

Liv Andrusier stars as Bertrande, while Alex James-Hatton and Shane O’Riordan share the role of Martin. The cast also includes Colin Ryan as Benoit, Barney Wilkinson as Guillaume, Caroline Sheen as Madame de Rols, Mathew Craig as Pierre, Aaron Lee Lambert as the Judge, and Adam Pearce as Father Dominic.

From Les Misérables and Miss Saigon creators, Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, the musical returns with new material, lyrics, and folk-influenced music. Annabel Mutale Reed and Paul Hodge contribute new lyrics alongside Boublil.

Matthew Warchus develops and directs the semi-staged production of Martin Guerre in London, which is performed for just five weeks.
