The Exorcist Information
Following its UK premiere in Birmingham, this terrifying stage adaptation of William Peter Blatty's story The Exorcist comes to London, running at the Phoenix Theatre in the West End.
Adapted by John Pielmeier, The Exorcist is about the demonic possession of twelve-year-old Regan MacNeil, the daughter of famous actors. Two priests, Father Damien Karras and Father Lankester Marrin, visit their home Georgetown in an attempt to rid Regan from the demon, called Pazuzu.
The story was made into a film in 1973 which went on to be nominated for ten Oscars, winning two and becoming the first horror movie to be nominated for Best Picture. It was renowned for its special effects, which include the famous 'spinning head' scene.
This stage adaptation premiered at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in 2016, and starred Adam Garcia (Wicked) as Karras, Peter Bowles as Merrin and Jenny Seagrove as Chris, who all reprise their roles in the West End.
The Exorcist has designs by Olivier Award-winner Anna Fleischle (Hangmen) with lighting by Tim Mitchell (Guys and Dolls), composition and sound design by Adam Cork (London Road), and illusion design is by Ben Hart (Impossible).
There’s something wrong with Regan. But don’t worry, she’s not alone…When the medical profession fails to provide answers to young Regan’s strange symptoms her desperate mother Chris turns to a local priest for help. But before Father Damian can tackle what’s before him, he must overcome his own shaken beliefs, as this fight is for more than just one girl’s soul…
