About Into the Woods

Step into the magnificent world of fairytales as Into the Woods arrives in London for a strictly limited 20-week run. Book Into the Woods tickets on London Theatre.

Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's beloved musical intertwines many familiar Grimm fairy tales, including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel, with the original story of the Baker and the Baker's Wife, who longs for a child but is cursed with childlessness by a cruel witch. To reverse the spell, they must brave the woods, where everyone hunts for something they think might make their lives complete.

The first act delivers the classic magic-fairy tale; the second act shatters that illusion. When the characters' choices turn on them, haunting them, the woods grow dark, and survival depends on facing hard truths. With witty lyricism, emotional depth, and iconic songs like "Giants in the Sky," "No One Is Alone," and "Children Will Listen," Into the Woods is a musical that remains one of Sondheim's richest and most enduring creations.

Into the Woods in London is directed by Jordan Fein, whose Olivier Award-winning staging of Fiddler on the Roof established him as a formidable director. He is joined by internationally acclaimed designer Tom Scutt, whose approach to theatre promises to transform the audience's surroundings into a forest that surprises at every turn.

An impeccable ensemble brings these beloved characters to life, including Kate Fleetwood as The Witch, Katie Brayben as the Baker's Wife, Jamie Parker as the Baker, Chumisa Dornford-May as Cinderella, and Gracie McGonigal as Little Red Riding Hood.

In collaboration with this brilliant cast is the creative team, including musical supervisor and musical director Mark Aspinall, sound designer Adam Fisher, lighting designer Aideen Malone, and wigs, hair, and make-up designer Sam Cox.

Moving and beautifully staged, Into the Woods is a musical that invites audiences to rediscover the magic of one of Sondheim's most significant works.
