TOAST Tickets

Following a phenomenal sell-out run at the Traverse part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Toast now makes its West End debut…

Nigel Slater’s Toast is a new play based on his award-winning autobiography. Vividly recreating suburban England in the 1960s, Nigel Slater’s childhood is told through the tastes and smells he grew up with. From making the perfect sherry trifle, waging war over cakes through to the playground politics of sweets and the rigid rules of restaurant dining, this is a moving and evocative tale of love, loss and...toast.

Our TOAST Review

“It is impossible not to love someone who makes toast for you.” So says Nigel Slater in his memoir, and indeed as the audience walks into The Other Palace, the smell of perfect on-the-brink-of-burned toast wafts through the foyer to envelop them in comfort and nostalgia.

Video: In rehearsals with the Nigel Slater’s Toast
Friday, 05 April, 2019

After runs in Salford and at the Edinburgh Fringe, Toast, the stage adaptation of TV chef Nigel Slater’s autobiography, is set to get its London premiere at The Other Palace next week. Based on his 2004 memoir, Henry Filloux-Bennett’s play follows a nine-year-old Slater at home where cooking takes centre stage. He learns to bake with his mother in the kitchen, but as he starts facing difficult hurdles in life, food becomes the only constant in his life.
