One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Dale Wasserman, based on the novel by Ken Kesey, will be staged at The Old Vic next year. Performances will run from 1 April to 23 May 2026.

Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge, Mufasa: The Lion King) and Giles Terera (Hamilton, Othello) will star as Randle P. McMurphy and Dale Harding respectively in this story about gambler and provocateur Randle P. McMurphy, who is sent to a psychiatric facility and disrupts the restrictive and repressive rule of Nurse Ratched.

Clint Dyer (Death of England, Othello) directs the production, which is part of Artistic Director Matthew Warchus’s final season at the venue.

Dyer said, "It feels such an honour, and the perfect time to place this wonderful play, based on the counterculture novel by Ken Kesey, back into the discourse. In directing this great play, I hope to hold more closely its original conversation on colonialism and identity from the novel, whilst maintaining its sense of mischief, anarchy and pathos."

Warchus said, "I’m delighted to be welcoming the brilliant Clint Dyer to be a part of this In The Round Season at The Old Vic. We can’t wait to share his exciting new take on this iconic story."

The creative team also includes Set & Costume by Ben Stones, Lighting by Chris Davey, Sound by Benjamin Grant, and Movement by Lucie Pankhurst.

Full cast is to be announced.
