Producer Eldarin Yeong will bring the performance drama Bound Feet Blues: a Life Told in Shoes to the Tristan Bates Theatre from 24 November to 12 December 2015 as part of the South East Asian Arts Festival 2015.

Written and performed by Yang-May Ooi, the piece is directed by Jessica Higgs and designed by Hua Tan.

"In an epic journey from China via East Asia and Australia to England, British-Malaysian writer-performer Yang-May Ooi explores female empowerment and desirability through the oral histories of three generations of her family and the shoes in her life. Yang-May uses the ancient Chinese tradition of footbinding experienced by her great-grandmother as a metaphor to investigate her search for her sexual identity."

Yang-May Ooi has performed her personal story, live on stage, at Conway Hall and Tristan Bates Theatre in 2014. Now in her 50s, she is a confident storyteller and is preparing for the release of her memoirs both as a theatre piece and a published book, representing a dramatic departure from the fictional novels she's become known for.

Tickets for the production are now on sale.
