Full cast announced for 'Oedipus' in the West End

Sherlock Holmes and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy actor Mark Strong and Lesley Manville (Sherwood, Mrs Harris Goes to Paris) will star in this adaptation of Sophocles’ great tragedy.

The full cast has been announced for Robert Icke's new adaptation of Oedipus in the West End. The play opens at Wyndham's Theatre on 15 October, running until 4 January 2025.

Joining the previously announced Mark Strong as Oedipus and Lesley Manville as Jocasta are Samuel Brewer (Teiresias), Michael Gould (Creon), Sara Hazemi (Lichas/Understudy Antigone), Gary McDonald (Driver), Bhasker Patel (Corin), Phia Saban (Antigone), Jordan Scowen (Eteocles), June Watson (Merope) and James Wilbraham (Polyneices), with Jim Creighton (Ensemble/Understudy Oedipus and Creon), Derek Elroy (Ensemble/Understudy Corin, Teiresias, and Driver), Celia Nelson (Ensemble/ Understudy Jocasta and Merope), and Jake Rory (Ensemble/Understudy Polyneices, Eteocles, and Lichas) completing the cast.

The creative team includes Hildegard Bechtler (Set Design), Wojciech Dziedzic (Costume Design), Natasha Chivers (Lighting Design), Tom Gibbons (Sound Design), and Tal Yarden (Video Design).

Based on Sophocles’ epic tragedy, Icke’s production was originally produced in Dutch by Internationaal Theater Amsterdam and was presented at the Edinburgh International Festival.
