Break out of the shadow and find out the full cast for Groundhog Day at the Old Vic. Previews begin on 20 May, with an opening night on 8 June, and performances to 12 August.

Based on the 1993 film of the same name, Groundhog Day sees weatherman Phil Connors caught in a time loop while covering a Punxsutawney tradition. Danny Rubin writes the book, and the musical reunites director Matthew Warchus with composer and lyricist Tim Minchin.

In a five-star review on London Theatre, our critic said: “Composer Tim Minchin, working with the original screenplay writer Danny Rubin, and director Matthew Warchus deepen and darken it with vivid new textures, provided in the gloriously tuneful score Minchin has written... the thrilling staging... inevitably repeats certain scenes a lot but [you never] tire of them."

Andy Karl will reprise the role of Phil Connors. Tanisha Spring will play Rita Hanson, alongside Ashlee Irish as Larry, Andrew Langtree as Ned Ryerson, Eve Norris as Nancy Taylor, Annie Wensak as Mrs. Lancaster, Billy Nevers as Fred, Kamilla Fernandes as Debbie, Aimée Fisher as Joelle, Nick Hayes as Ralph, Chris Jenkins as Gus, Ben Redfern as Buster, Mark Pearce as Sheriff, Durone Stokes as Deputy, Jez Unwin as Jenson, Jacqueline Hughes as Piano Teacher, Alex Stoll as Billy, Jasmin Colangelo, Kelly Ewins-Prouse, Zack Guest, and Matthew Whennell-Clark.

‘I am hugely proud of our Groundhog Day. It has everything I want in a musical: it’s funny, heart-warming, multi-layered and theatrically intricate, tackling big ideas whilst still being wildly entertaining. It is thematically, musically and intellectually quite grown-up, but also has an enema pun,” said Minchin.

The production will feature choreography by Lizzi Gee, set and costume design by Rob Howell, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, and sound design by Simon Baker.
