Tamzin Outhwaite to star in ‘The Haunting of Alice Bowles’
The ghoulish play will be available to stream online from December.
A casting change for the online stream of The Haunting of Alice Bowles, available from next month, has been announced. Tamzin Outhwaite will now play the titular role, taking over from Janie Dee who has had to withdraw for personal reasons.
Philip Franks' new play sees Alice Bowles solving a mystery at the time of World War One. Quickly moving to the present day, two YouTubers uncover a grave, with two eras discovering each other to unravel mysteries. The Mystery of Alice Bowles is an adaptation of M.R. James' The Experiment, originally published in 1931.
No stranger to the West End, Tamzin Outhwaite's credits include Stepping Out, How The Other Half Lives and Sweet Charity. Casting is completed by Max Bowden as Matt, Stephen Boxer as Dr Hall, Jack Archer as Joseph, Alexandra Guelff as Caitlin, Robert Mountford as the Lawyer, Poppy Roe as Mrs Ivey and Tim Treloar as the Boatman.
The online production is co-directed by Alastair Whatley and Philip Franks. Ahead of the production, Franks said: "I've loved M. R. James ever since I was terrified by 'Whistle and I'll Come To You' on the BBC in 1968...Now it's my turn. I've taken a very short story of his - as far as I know never dramatised before - and given it a modern twist for our troubled times."
The Haunting of Alice Bowles is available at Original Theatre Online from 17 Dec. 2020 - 28 Feb. 2021.
