As previously confirmed, Juliet Stevenson will lead the cast as Professor Ruth Woolf. Christopher Osikanlu Colquhoun, Mariah Louca, Daniel Rabin, Naomi Wirthner and Hannah Ledwidge return to The Doctor after starring in performances at the Almeida Theatre.

Doña Croll, Juliet Garricks, Preeya Kalidas, John Mackay, Matilda Tucker and Sabrina Wu complete The Doctor cast.

The Doctor centres on Professor Ruth Woolf as she finds herself in an ethical dilemma while treating a dying patient with sepsis. When a priest is sent to deliver her last rites and Wolff denies him entry, her decision makes national headlines.

Robert Icke adapts The Doctor, based loosely on Arthur Schnitzler's play Professor Bernhardi. The Doctor marks Stevenson's third West End transfer in an Icke production; she previously starred in his Mary Stuart and Hamlet, also at the Almeida Theatre. The Doctor received an Olivier nomination for Best New Play. In a five-star review of The Doctor on London Theatre, our critic said: “[Icke’s] modernisation of Arthur Schnitzler's 105-year-old play Professor Bernhardi is a tense medical drama, but it has handed Juliet Stevenson an electrifying role in which she is absolutely mesmerising.”

The Doctor features design by Hildegard Bechtler, lighting design by Natasha Chivers, and sound and composition by Tom Gibbons.

The Doctor is at the Duke of York’s Theatre.
