
'Unfortunate: The Untold Story of Ursula the Sea Witch' to open at The Other Palace
Taking inspiration from Disney's The Little Mermaid, Unfortunate focuses on the story of Ursula the Sea Witch.
Unfortunate: The Untold Story of Ursula the Sea Witch will transfer to London’s The Other Palace. Performances will run from 6 February to 5 April 2026.
Reinvented for a fourth time, Unfortunate will feature new set, costumes, jokes, and characters, as well as a running time of 2 hours including one interval.
Taking inspiration from Disney's The Little Mermaid, Unfortunate focuses on the story of Ursula the Sea Witch. The "pop culture legend and a feminist badass" takes centre stage in this new take on her backstory.
Unfortunate first premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in summer 2019, before heading to Birmingham Hippodrome’s Patrick Studio, Underbelly Earls Court in London, and returning to the fringe in 2022. In December 2023, the production had an 11-week run at Southwark Playhouse Elephant.
The creative team includes book and lyrics by Robyn Grant and Daniel Foxx, music by Tim Gilvin, direction by Robyn Grant, set and costume design by Jasmine Swan, choreography by Melody Sinclair-Marsh, puppetry and movement direction by Laura Cubitt, orchestration, music production, and music supervision by Nikki Davison and Joe Davison for Auburn Jam, sound design by Ian Dickinson for Autograph, lighting design by Adam King, puppet design by Mikayla Teodoro and Jasmine Swan, puppet makes by Mikayla Teodoro, intimacy direction by Maisie Carter, costume supervision by Beth Qualter Buncall, and props by Props by Eve.
