Take the touching story from a 2008 comedy film, mix in a healthy helping of delicate songs from Grammy Award nominee Sara Bareilles, sprinkle a talented cast of established Broadway and West End names, let it bake for a few weeks in rehearsals and what's the final product? The Great British Broadway transfer of Waitress, set to open at the Adelphi Theatre.

Waitress has been enjoying its run on Broadway since 2016, where it was nominated for four Tony Awards including best musical and best original score, and it will be hoping to repeat its success when it transfers to London next month.

It's currently baking away in rehearsals in London, as the cast add the finishing flourishes before previews begin. Katharine McPhee, star of the NBC musical series Smash, leads the cast as Jenna, a waitress with a passion for pie making who is stuck in an abusive relationship.

She is joined by a good helping of recognisable West End faces: David Hunter (Kinky Boots), Marisha Wallace (Dreamgirls), Laura Baldwin (Eugenius) and Stephen Leask (School of Rock) all feature, along with 30 Rock actor Jack McBrayer who makes his London stage debut.

We got a taste of things to come in rehearsals, and sat down with the principals to find out just why Waitress is set to rise above the rest.

Waitress is at the Adelphi Theatre from 8th February.

Waitress tickets are available now.
