A Fight Against… (Una Lucha Contra…) Information

Does violence bring people closer together? Or does it force people apart? In Pablo Manzi’s dark comedy, explore how vicious aggression could be used in meaningful ways. A Fight Against… (Una Lucha Contra) tickets will be available on London Theatre soon.

The A Fight Against… storyline focuses on different characters across the Americas, who all use or discuss violence in their day-to-day lives. There’s a study group in the USA. There’s a guard in the desert and a hangman in Mexico. There’s dancers and lecturers all across the Americas just trying to get by. Everyone encounters violence at some point in their lives, whether they’re directly or indirectly affected. A Fight Against… examines how these attacks are used to unite people — or separate individuals for good.

The world premiere of A Fight Against… (Una Lucha Contra) play is at the Royal Court. The Royal Court has housed acclaimed premieres: Cock, Jerusalem and The Ferryman all started out at the Sloane Square venue.

A Fight Against… is by Chilean playwright Pablo Manzi. His work has been performed regularly across South America, but now he’ll make his UK debut with this new comedy. The play was developed during a residency at the Royal Court, so it’s fitting that A Fight Against… London premiere happens at the same venue too.

All performances of A Fight Against… (Una Lucha Contra) will be in English. On 21 January, the performance will have Spanish surtitles.

Tickets to A Fight Against… (Una Lucha Contra) will be available soon.

Has lighting struck twice? Not entirely, though that's not necessarily meant as a demerit. In 1991, the Royal Court's studio-sized Theatre Upstairs premiered a play by the Argentina-born writer Ariel Dorfman called Death and the Maiden that went on to an extended life on the West End and a Broadway perch and film version beyond. And this season finds the same venue proffering a Chilean playwright, Pablo Manzi, with a new play in translation that has notable affinities with Dorfman's work from 30...
