Our Generation Information

After conducting interviews for five years, Alecky Blythe’s verbatim play Our Generation expresses the thoughts of a generation venturing into adulthood. Our Generation tickets will be available on London Theatre soon.

Even before the pandemic, teenagers lived a radically different life to their parents at the same age. The rise of social media, influencers and a constant news cycle means teenagers are bombarded with images. But what’s it like to be a teenager? The Our Generation play has been created from half a decade’s work interviewing 12 young people. Individually, each teenager has a different story to tell. Collectively, their stories tell a united narrative, making audiences realise just how challenging it is to be a teenager in 21st-century Britain. If you’re a teenager, or you’ve ever been a teenager, you’ll find something that resonates with you in Our Generation.

Our Generation is by Alecky Blythe. Blythe returns to the National Theatre after her original musical, London Road, was met with critical acclaim and four Olivier Award nominations. She’s joined by Daniel Evans as director, with Evans making his National Theatre directorial debut. The Our Generation creative team also includes scenic design by Vicki Mortimer, costumes by Kinnetia Isidore, lighting by Akhila Krishnan and sound design by Zoe Spurr.

The new play isn’t just being shown in London though, so audiences far and wide can experience the show. After Our Generation London performances in the spring, the production will move to Chichester Festival Theatre, playing for a further three weeks. Be a part of this generation of theatregoing with tickets to Our Generation.

Tickets to Our Generation will be available soon.
