Noma Dumezweni plays Ibsen’s famous protagonist, Nora Helmer, in A Doll’s House - Part 2 at the Donmar Warehouse. A Doll’s House - Part 2 tickets will be available on London Theatre soon.
A Doll’s House - Part 2 play is set 15 years after the ending of the Henrik Ibsen play, A Doll’s House. In the final scene of A Doll’s House, Nora decides to live an independent life away from her husband and children. In making a lifechanging decision, she says goodbye to her past life. But at some point, Nora must ask those who she leaves a final question. In A Doll's House - Part 2 Nora eventually returns to the house, but she must face the family she left behind and deal with the consequences.
Not many plays have a “sequel” similar to A Doll’s House - Part 2. The play shines a light on what could have happened to Nora, albeit with a 21st-century focus. Lucas Hnath's 2017 play A Doll’s House - Part 2 play premiered in California and transferred to Broadway in the same year. A Doll's House - Part 2 received eight Tony nominations including Best New Play. Laurie Metcalf, who played Nora, won a Tony for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play.
In a New York Theatre Guide review of A Doll’s House - Part 2, a critic said: “It is the combination of empathy and bravado, clarity and uncertainty, resentment and hope that… lets the play sneak in and grab you where you live. A Doll’s House, Part 2 is a reminder of why theatre – or art itself – is, at its best, a life altering experience… This is the sort of play that makes us remember we are alive.”
Dumezweni will lead the A Doll’s House - Part 2 London performances as Nora Helmer. Dumezweni is best known for originating the role of Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, winning an Olivier for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
Tickets to A Doll’s House - Part 2 will be available soon.
