About My Son's a Queer (But What Can You Do?)

Nobody is going to rain on Rob Madge’s parade! After acclaimed performances at the Edinburgh Fringe, the Turbine Theatre, and in the West End, My Son’s a Queer returns for an encore season at the Ambassadors Theatre.

In 2020, Rob Madge became a social media sensation after sharing clips of their childhood videos online. During the clips, a young Rob tries to recreate the magic of a Disneyland parade in their home. While Rob donned homemade costumes, wigs, and wore makeup to become Disney princesses, their family stepped up to fill in all the parts: stage manager, sound technician, and Goofy.

Reflecting on their childhood, Rob realises it's not all about creating the "perfect" show. In the My Son’s a Queer play, Rob aims to recreate the childhood parade and explore the joy of raising queer children.

The My Son’s a Queer, (But What Can You Do?) London premiere opeend at the Turbine Theatre in 2021. A year later, they took the show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. While in Edinburgh, Rob announced a two-week season of My Son’s a Queer at the Garrick Theatre. In a London Theatre review, our critic said: "Madge has now turned their life-to-date into a 75-minute celebration of being your best and truest self."
