The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a musical that premiered in 2019 at Southwark Playhouse and was staged there again in 2023 for a sell-out run.
This story tells the classic tale of Benjamin Button, who is born old and gets younger each day. The adaptation is set in a small Cornwall fishing village at the end of World War I. This touching story includes a folk-infused score with songs like A Matter of Time, The Tide is Comin' in, When E're She Looked at Me, and The Kraken's Lullaby.
The excellent cast is led by Olivier Award winner John Dagleish (Sunny Afternoon) as Benjamin Button, and Olivier Award nominee Clare Foster (Travesties) as Eloween Keene. The cast also includes Katy Ellis, Matthew Burns, Jonathan Charles, Oonagh Cox, Anna Fordham, Philippa Hogg, Damien James, Elliot Mackenzie, Ann Marcuson, Jack Quarton and Benedict Salter.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in London has a talented creative team led by Jethro Compton, who wrote the musical and is also the show's director and designer.
As Compton said of the show, "The message of the show is to really make the most of the time we've got. It doesn't matter if we're old or young or ageing in reverse! I hope people will leave, having had a good time, having enjoyed a Cornish beer, and with the feeling of making every second count. Don't waste your time – it's precious!"
