Like the movie, it tells the haunting story of Edward - an unusual young man with scissors in place of his hands. Tim Burton loosely inspired the character of Edward based on a drawing he made as a teenager. The story, which reflects Burton’s isolating and quirky youth in suburban California, is considered the most personal of all of Burton’s work.

Bourne’s stage adaptation brings these familiar themes to a new theatrical genre. This utterly unconventional tale of isolation, artistry, and a desire to be loved evokes elements of horror, sci-fi, and romance; it’s Beauty and the Beast meets Frankenstein, wrapped up in a pas de deux.

After premiering in London in 2005, Edward Scissorhands has since toured across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States (where it received a 2007 Drama Desk Award). For the first time in nearly a decade, the captivating modern ballet returns to the UK, launching a tour in November of 2023 and settling in London just in time for the holiday season.
