A Midsummer Night's Dream - Barbican tickets

A Midsummer Night's Dream is a play that explores order and disorder, love and marriage, and reality versus appearance as it tells the tale of four lovers leaving Athens and stumbling into a magical fairy forest where tricks, magic, and romance abound.

A Midsummer Night's Dream in London stars Mathew Baynton (Ghosts, Horrible Histories) as Bottom, and it boasts an exceptional creative team led by director Eleanor Rhode (Teddy, Mrs. Wickham). The creative team also includes set and costume designer Lucy Osborne (Berlusconi A New Musical), illusion director and designer John Bulleid (Bronco Billy), lighting designer Matt Daw (Asteroid City, The Last Ship), composer Will Gregory (King John), sound designer Pete Malkin (Death of a Salesman), video designer Will Duke (The Encounter), and movement director Annie-Lunnette Deakin-Foster (Othello).

The Guardian's 5-star review said, "A production's panache is easily attributed to a director but this feels clearly a team effort, with Lucy Osborne's design, John Bulleid's illusions, Matt Daw's lighting and Pete Malkin's sound also excelling in the dazzling inception."

A Midsummer Night's Dream was written in 1595 or 1596 by William Shakespeare and has become one of his most famous plays, which has been a hit with both critics and audiences. In addition to many performances worldwide throughout the centuries, the hit play has also been adapted into a wide variety of creative works from film to opera, ballet, and more. One such opera was the 1692 show, The Fairy-Queen, by Henry Purcell, and in 1964, a musical adaptation of the play called Babes in The Wood debuted on Broadway.
