Be brought into the life of one woman’s extraordinary (and also very ordinary) life in Mary Page Marlowe, a remarkable play written by Pulitzer Prize-winning Tracy Letts (August: Osage County, Killer Joe). Book Mary Page Marlowe tickets on London Theatre.
In eleven non-chronological scenes spanning a lifetime, five separate actors embody Mary Page Marlowe at different ages, offering glimpses into her lived experiences. Through memories sewn together, the audience is invited to live her life alongside her in all of its contradictions, grievances, and joys.
Mary Page Marlowe is a play that was first staged at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre and later Off-Broadway. Mary Page Marlowe is now arriving in London for the very first time. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts has credited London as being deeply influential to his growth as a playwright, and this premiere is sure to deepen that connection.
This show is directed by Matthew Warchus (Matilda the Musical), and this exceptional production will open his final season as artistic director of the Old Vic Theatre.
Leading the ensemble cast are Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking, Thelma & Louise) and Academy Award nominee Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie, Matilda the Musical), each playing Mary at different ages. Sarandon makes her long-anticipated UK theatre debut, and Riseborough returns to the stage after a fifteen-year absence in a rare opportunity to see these two celebrated individuals on stage.
Alongside the performance’s formidable cast is the creative team for whom this production wouldn’t be possible without, including director Matthew Warchus, scene and costume design by Rob Howell, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone, and sound design by Simon Baker.
With this fabulous creative team and talented ensemble cast, Mary Page Marlowe in London promises to be a deeply moving and compelling exploration of both the profound and mundane aspects of life.
