Blood of my Blood is a play first set in Bullock Creek, South Carolina, in 1862. As the American Civil War pushes beyond the plantation, Ginnie Good raises her five children in a cabin that will stand long after their lives change and end.

More than a century later, that same cabin has been transformed into an Airbnb. A pregnant Black woman arrives at the space looking for something more meaningful than a simple vacation, and, using conjure to communicate with her ancestors, she looks into the past for answers to personal questions she hasn’t been able to ask anyone else.

Moving between 1862 and the present day, Blood of my Blood explores the connections between descendants and ancestors and the things that we inherit and bring with us into our futures. As one woman reaches back to the people who came before her, the cabin becomes a place of complicated legacy and belonging.

Joy Nesbitt makes her Royal Court playwriting debut with the production. The cast includes Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ, Jodie Campbell, Hannah Morrish, Karene Peter, and Patrick Vaill.

Tatenda Shamiso directs the show, with set and costume design by Natalie Pryce, lighting by Simisola Majekodunmi, and sound design by Kayodeine.

Blood of my Blood in London spans two radically different periods of American history. It asks its audience what might happen when someone stops to listen to the voices of the people who knew this world before we did and have already left their mark.
