About The Shitheads

Don't miss the world premiere of a brand new dark comedy, The Shitheads, at the Royal Court Theatre. Book The Shitheads tickets on London Theatre.

The Shitheads is a play that tells the story of early inhabitants of Britain tens of thousands of years ago. When strangers arrive at their cave, things turn savage as their peace is broken.

The exceptional cast bringing this unique production to life includes Annabel Smith, Scarlet Wilderink, Jacoba Williams, Peter Clements, Ami Tredrea, and Jonny Khan.

Jack Nicholls is the talented playwright behind this show. The Shitheads is his debut play, and he submitted the play through the Royal Court Theatre's year-round open submissions portal. The play had a staged reading at the inaugural Open Submissions Festival before coming to the Royal Court Theatre in a fully staged production.

"I was feeling a bit cynical about stories that seemed designed to re-affirm the audience's faith in stories—people aren't un-complicatedly good, obviously, and it felt misguided to suggest that stories could be," Nicholls explained of his inspiration for this show. "I thought it would be a good idea to kick around for a while, anyway, and then I saw a bowl made from a human skull in the Natural History Museum and things started to knit together."

The Shitheads in London boasts a sensational creative team, including co-direction by Royal Court Resident Director Aneesha Srinivasan and Artistic Director David Byrne, design by Anna Reid, Puppetry Design by Finn Caldwell, Direction and Movement by Finn Caldwell, lighting design by Alex Fernandes, and composer and sound design by Asaf Zohar.

The Shitheads is part of the Royal Court's 70th anniversary season, and it is supported by the Cockayne Grant.
