Hay Fever is a play by Noël Coward that follows the Bliss family, a household filled with self-absorbed individuals whose idea of hosting is not as hospitable as one might think. Judith Bliss is a recently retired stage actress and is already missing all of the attention. At the family’s country home, her reclusive husband, who is also a novelist, David, and their grown children, Sorel and Simon, are too absorbed in their own lives to give her the attention she believes she deserves.

So, Judith invites a fan to stay for the weekend. Unfortunately for her, every member of the family had the same idea, inviting a guest of their own to the house, and none of them told anyone else of their plans. As the visitors arrive one after the other, the house descends into chaos.

Emmy, two-time Tony, and Screen Actors Guild winner Christine Baranski stars as Judith Bliss, making her West End debut in one of Coward’s greatest comedies. Academy Award nominee Richard E. Grant stars beside her as David Bliss, returning to the West End in this production.

Hay Fever is directed by Emily Burns and runs at Wyndham’s Theatre for a strictly limited season.

First staged in 1925, Hay Fever remains one of Coward’s most entertaining comedies with a sharp understanding of a family who cannot seem to get enough of themselves. Audiences will not regret getting a seat for this brilliantly witty, star-led play that has captivated theatre-goers for over a hundred years.
