Thelma & Louise: A New Musical tickets

After hearing about the presentation last year during gatsby I was intrigued to see what would become of it. 1 year later,I'm in the room for one of the 1st Previews and may i say,I'm impressed. This female led romantic drama about most of all women being seen in the wrong light and being stereotyped incorrectly as not being able to defend themselves. This friendship between Louise played by Rachel Tucker and Thelma played by Amy Lennox shows how you'd do anything for your best friend, no matter the consequences. Escaping their other halves for a 'fishing trip' gone wrong . Along the way their mishaps lead to meeting a 'Student' by the highway trying to get back to school played by Jordan Luke Gage as JD. These fugitives are being chased across America by the FBI and Atlanta police, will they make it to the border or will time catch up to them. The beautiful set design is so of the period in America and thrusts into parts of the auditorium. Including having the tech and band on three floors on either side of the stage bringing such a great sound design by Gareth Owen. The score though not memorable doesn't need to be, it brought me in when needed and relaxed when I wanted to be. It heart wrenching performances of ballads especially by Rachel Tucker shows how each song has true feeling and meaning to it. I couldn't keep my eyes of the stage the whole show. Captivated me throughout. The other leading performances are played by Jordan Luke Gage, Samuel Edwards, Alex Gibson-Giorgo, Trevor Dion Nicholas and Amy Lennox, They all get there stand out moments in the piece from the good girl gone bad arch of Amy Lennox as Thelma which has moments where she challenges her decisions while relaxing in the pool and then holds up a bank. JLG shows how not everything is at it seems with a charm, the kindest of people aren't always to be trusted. The division between work and family is shown whole heartedly between Trevor Dion Nicholas as Hal and playing his wife Letitia Hector as Sarah. I can't say much without ruining the show but him having a family and having to put his job first is all chucked away when he puts his heart first at the end because of what his girls mean to him. The opposites between the two husbands Alex Gibson-Giorgo as Jimmy and Samuel Edwards as Darryl are fun to watch one more passionate and hoping their girl our safe, the other one saying once they get home he's gonna kill them both but acting more parental then romantic. Well rounded with a great ensemble that makes the piece very community based and makes a wall of sound. Some also playing multiple characters this shows how they are using the cast to its full and driving them to the limit. Overall the ending was done so beautifully showing that you don't need big props to sell the show just true heart. Nothing felt out of place from its authentic choreography by Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber to the book and score by Callie Khouri and Neko Case. Never seeing the film i wasn't sure what to except but I was pleasantly surprised how much some of the events of the actions and back stories are still relevant to today's stories we hear in the news or the stuff happening on our own door stuff but is hidden from those who need to hear it. All I have to say is if anything is happening to anyone you know and they're too shy to say anything. Tell them to reach out to those that matter, before it gets worse. Unlike Thelma and Louise we should all be able escape our demons before it gets worse. Thelma & Louise - A New Musical is playing at the Young Vic till 24th October.

A brilliant new show which deserves to be extended or moved to the west end. It’s amazingly well produced and the leads are brilliant. I am very critical and this was a great show and everything was great.

Good stage reinterpretation of a movie with excellent acting (especially the leads), and an innovative set. However, the music (not lyrics) doesn't particularly support the story and is in opposition to the production, which highlights Country Western, but the music doesn't reflect this at all. So it's a bit jarring, like it's two halves but not a whole.
