As well as roles on screen in Death on the Nile, Black Mirror, and This Time with Alan Partridge, Susannah Fielding has an extensive stage career, including the Bridge Theatre's acclaimed A Midsummer Night's Dream, American Psycho and The Merchant of Venice — both for the Almeida Theatre — and All New People in the West End.
Now she stars as Roxane alongside Adrian Lester in Simon Evans's production of Cyrano de Bergerac.

What made Cyrano the right project for you at this point in your career?
When a part like this comes along for any actress you have to grab it with both hands! Roxane has everything — high comedy, depth, power, intelligence, vulnerability, a lifetime’s journey, and utter heartbreak. It’s a gift.
You’ve played so many intelligent, articulate women. What makes Roxane unlike anyone else you’ve played?
Her razor sharp wit and total open heartedness. She is completely herself. She is spiky and clumsy and full of life. She’s a real person!
Your co-star Adrian Lester has such a distinctive presence on stage. What has it been like sharing this story with him each night?
I know I will look back on this as an extremely special chapter of my life. Adrian has the gift of lighting up a stage, and he is absolutely present and alive with you in every moment. He is a master of his craft and playing verbal tennis with him on stage every night is a career highlight.
What’s the biggest misconception people have about acting on stage compared with screen?
Energy! It requires front-footed, full commitment with every bit of you. And craft I think, which is best gathered by watching and learning from those you admire.
When the curtain comes down each night, what do you hope people are still talking about on the journey home?
The importance of telling those you love how you really feel, the courage to be vulnerable and reach out. We see people deeply moved by this night after night, and it feels like a very relevant and special story to tell.
