Broadway had its first new show opening of the year.

The White Lotus star Carrie Coon is here to crawl under our skin this year. 8 January saw the first Broadway opening of 2026: Bug, starring Coon and Namir Smallwood as two drifters whose romance turns into a dangerous spiral of conspiracy and paranoia. "Amid crafty scenic metamorphoses, blood, violence, and pyrotechnics, the show’s most special effects are performances by Coon and Smallwood," reads New York Theatre Guide's review.

Channing Tatum is bringing Magic Mike Live to NYC.

It's time to pony up. Joining ongoing productions in London and Las Vegas, Magic Mike Live is taking over a custom-built venue in NYC's Theatre District. Magic Mike movie star Channing Tatum, who co-created and directs the live show, made the announcement at an exclusive live press event on 20 January, complete with a cast performance. Check out a sneak peek while you wait for the show's NYC arrival on 8 October.

Broadway stars won big at the Golden Globes.

Held on 11 January, the Golden Globe Awards annually celebrate the best in film and TV. This year, there was a lot of overlap with the NYC theatre scene. You can see If I Had Legs I’d Kick You winner Rose Byrne opposite Kelli O'Hara in Fallen Angels on Broadway starting in late March, while nominees Carrie Coon (The White Lotus) and Ayo Edebiri (Proof) are starring on Broadway in Bug and Proof this spring, respectively.

And that's not even the half of it — New York Theatre Guide has a full roundup of 2026 Golden Globe honorees on stage this season.

The 2026 Oscar nominations came out — with some surprising snubs.

While some 2026 Oscar nominees, like Byrne, carried over from the Globes, one contender was noticeably absent: Wicked: For Good, the second installment of the blockbuster musical's film adaptation. It was a stark contrast from the 10 nominations (including two wins) the first film received in 2025. But Wicked has already proved a worldwide cultural phenomenon 10 times over, and the Broadway musical and the films alike will have a fanbase for good.

The kitchen is closing. After nearly two years on Broadway, in which it won two Tony Awards and a Grammy Award, Hell's Kitchen will play its final performance on 22 February.
