The musical stage adaptation of Big is set to open at the Dominion Theatre this autumn, it has been announced.

Based on the 1988 film which starred Tom Hanks as a boy who makes a wish to be "big" and wakes up an adult, the musical premiered on Broadway in 1996 with music by David Shire, lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr, and a book by John Weidman.

The production, which will run at the Dominion Theatre from 6th September to 2nd November, will star Jay McGuiness in the lead role of Josh Baskin.

McGuiness, who found fame as a member of boyband The Wanted, is currently starring in the West End production of Rip It Up at the Garrick Theatre, and starred in the UK touring production of Big the Musical from 2016.

Alongside Gary Wilmot, Diana Vickers and Irwin Sparkes, the production played the Bord Gáis Arena in Dublin and Theatre Royal Plymouth in 2016 and 2017, although besides McGuiness, casting for the West End production is yet to be announced.

The musical, which premiered at Broadway's Shubert Theatre in 1996, features songs such as "Cross The Line", "It's Time" and "When You're Big". Starring Daniel H Jenkins, the musical was nominated for five Tony Awards including best book, score and choreography.

Big the Musical is at the Dominion Theatre from 6th September to 2nd November.
