Bridgerton actor Jonathan Bailey will star in a new production of Richard II at the Bridge Theatre next year. The show will run from February to May, 2025.

Bailey is best known for his portrayal of Lord Anthony in the steamy Netflix period drama Bridgerton. He is set to play Fiyero in the Wicked film, which opens in cinemas later this year, and is in production on Jurassic World, leading the film alongside Scarlett Johansson.

He won an Olivier Award for his portrayal of Jamie in Company and played Edgar to Ian McKellen’s King Lear at Chichester Festival Theatre in 2017. His most recent stage role was in Marianne Elliott's production of Cock at the Ambassadors Theatre.

Based on the life of King Richard II of England, Shakespeare's play chronicles the downfall of a disastrous and politically incompetent king and is the first part of a tetralogy, which includes three plays about Richard's successors: Henry IV, Part 1; Henry IV, Part 2; and Henry V.

Nicholas Hytner will direct, following his success with Guys & Dolls, which is currently playing at the venue. The creative team also includes design by Bob Crowley (An American in Paris), lighting design by Bruno Poet (Tina – The Tina Turner Musical), and associate direction by Lily Dyble.
