Cast revealed for ‘Nachtland’ at the Young Vic
Atonement actor Romola Garai heads up the cast for the UK premiere of Nachtland, directed by Tony Award-winner Patrick Marber. The play opens on 20 February.
The cast has been announced for the UK premiere of Nachtland at London’s Young Vic, which includes BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated actress, writer and director Romola Garai.
She will play the role of Nicola and is joined by Jane Horrocks (Little Voice, Cabaret, Absolutely Fabulous) as Evamaria, John Heffernan (Much Ado About Nothing, Edward II, Dracula) as Philipp, Angus Wright (Flowers, Peep Show, Oresteia) as Kahl, and Jenna Augen (Leopoldstadt, Bad Jews, The Comedy About a Bank Robbery) as Judith.
Nachtland, a satire about marriage, legacy, and the rise of the new right, is based in modern-day Germany. Nicola and Philipp are clearing out their late father’s house, but when they find an old painting stashed in the attic, things get savage. Nicola wants to sell it, Philipp wants to keep it, and his wife Judith wants to burn it.
Marius von Mayenburg’s play is directed by Patrick Marber, who received a Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play for Leopoldstadt this year. The rest of the creative team includes Maja Zade (translation), Anna Fleischle (design), Richard Howell (lighting), Adam Cork (composition and sound design), and EJ Boyle (movement direction).
The play opens on 20 February and runs until 20 April.
Further casting will be announced.
