Charlie Stemp to star in ‘Crazy For You’ at the Gillian Lynne Theatre

The popular Gershwin musical returns to London.

They’ve got rhythm! The Gershwin musical, Crazy For You, will transfer from the Chichester Festival Theatre to the West End in 2023. Crazy For You begins a 30-week season of performances at the Gillian Lynne Theatre from 24 June, with an opening night on 3 July. Book Crazy For You tickets on London Theatre.

Crazy For You follows Bobby Child, who tries to balance his showbusiness dreams and his mother’s wishes. He begrudgingly heads to Deadrock, Nevada, and falls in love with a theatre owner’s daughter. While in Deadrock, Bobby puts on a show with the New York Follies to save the theatre and bring glamour to the western state.

The musical features a book by Ken Ludwig and music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin, with songs including “Someone To Watch Over Me,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” and “I Got Rhythm.”

Crazy For You transfers from 2022 performances at Chichester Festival Theatre. The Chichester cast continuing include Olivier-nominated actor Charlie Stemp as Bobby, Carly Anderson as Polly, Tom Edden as Bela Zangler, and Matthew Craig as Lank Hawkins.

Susan Stroman directs and choreographs the production, which premiered in Chichester earlier this year. She also won a Tony Award in New York for choreographing a Crazy For You Broadway production in 1992.

The London production also features set design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting design by Ken Billington, and sound design by Kai Harada.
