David Tennant and Cush Jumbo-led 'Macbeth' to transfer to the West End
The critically acclaimed production played the Donmar Warehouse in 2023, also starring Tennant and Jumbo, and will now have a two-month run in the West End.
All hail Macbeth! Macbeth, starring David Tennant in the title role and Cush Jumbo as Lady Macbeth, will play in the West End this autumn, with performances running at the Harold Pinter Theatre from 1 October to 14 December.
The production comes to the West End from a critically acclaimed premiere at the Donmar Warehouse in fall 2023, with the entire original cast returning. Alongside Tennant (Doctor Who) and Jumbo (The Good Wife) are Moyo Akandé as Ross, Annie Grace as Musician/Gentlewoman, Brian James O’Sullivan as Donalbain/Soldier/Murderer/Musician, Cal MacAninch as Banquo, Kathleen MacInnes as The Singer, Alasdair Macrae as Musician, Rona Morison as Lady Macduff, Noof Ousellam as Macduff, Jatinder Singh Randhawa as The Porter/Seytan, Ros Watt as Malcolm, and Benny Young as Duncan/Doctor. Casper Knopf and Raffi Phillips share the role of Macduff's Son/Fleance/Young Siward.
Olivier Award-nominated director Max Webster returns to stage Macbeth. The creative team also includes designer Rosanna Vize, lighting designer Bruno Poet, sound designer Gareth Fry, movement director Shelley Maxwell, composer and musical director Alasdair Macrae, and fight directors Rachel Bown-Williams and Ruth Cooper-Brown of Rc-Annie Ltd.
Shakespeare's classic tragedy follows a Scottish nobleman who receives a prophecy that he will rise to power — and his hunger for it soon overtakes him. Webster's production of the show employs a live Gaelic band and provides the audience with lightweight headphones, tuning them into even the smallest and most secret sounds on stage.
London Theatre's review of Macbeth at the Donmar reads, "Webster’s production, which zips in at under two hours, brilliantly harnesses the play’s relentless momentum to illustrate Macbeth’s hubristic fall."
