Summary
- The stage version of BBC show The Traitors will premiere in summer 2027
- The Traitors – Acts of Betrayal opens at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in the West End
- The action will play out differently each night across the week depending on who is chosen to be the Traitors
The theatre version of the popular BBC series will be called The Traitors – Acts of Betrayal, and will have its world premiere at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London's West End. The show begins preview performances on 11 May 2027, and its official opening night will be 8 June 2027.
The producers have also revealed the stage show's unique twist on the format, which asks the question: how would the action play out if different players were chosen as Traitors? The story will begin the same way at each performance, from Monday to Friday, but will end in five different ways depending on who gets to wear the iconic cloak. It's essentially a cycle of five plays, rather than one set show.
Then on Saturday shows, the audience gets to decide who becomes a Traitor, and that choice determines in real life what happens and who triumphs in the final showdown. The selections and outcome may well be different at the matinee and evening performances, depending on each show's audience.
The Traitors – Acts of Betrayal will be written by John Finnemore (Cabin Pressure, Good Omens) and directed by Olivier Award winner Robert Hastie (Operation Mincemeat, Standing at the Sky’s Edge).
Stephen Lambert, CEO of Studio Lambert, said: “Each of the five plays tells a whole story on its own. But the same evening could have turned out in completely different ways, and anyone who wants to discover how is welcome to come back and find out. On the surface it is a game of paranoia and betrayal. Underneath, it is about who we really are under pressure, and the way our true colours show in the end."
Caro Newling, Co-Founder of Neal Street Productions, said: “It's a true privilege to bring such an innately theatrical concept to the stage together with Studio Lambert and a team of inspired theatre-makers. With a different new play performed each weekday night, and rogue-choice Saturday performances, they've together created an endeavour of extraordinary scale, offering audiences a genuine box-set of entertainment from the heart of the Traitors universe.”
