Elizabeth Dulau and Owen Teale will lead the cast of Alexi Kaye Campbell's new play Bird Grove, which opens at Hampstead Theatre on 13 February, running through 21 March.

Dulau (Andor) will play Mary Ann Evans, who was later known as George Eliot, while Teale (A Doll’s House, Ivanov, No Man’s Land) will play her father, Robert Evans.

The cast is completed by Jonnie Broadbent, Jolyon Coy, Tom Espiner, Rebecca Scroggs, James Staddon and Sarah Woodward. Anna Ledwich directs.

Set in 1841, Bird Grove follows Mary Ann Evans as she comes into conflict with her father, as he tries to find her a husband. With Mary's increased exposure to new ideas through new friendships and her reading, their relationship comes under further strain, which forces her to consider her future and identity.

The creative team includes designer Sarah Beaton, lighting designer Matt Haskins and sound designer and composer Harry Blake, with casting by Juliet Horsley.
